A Path Toward Large-Scale Cities In Space. Intro and Building Spin Stations
John Cserep
Abstract
Missing from traditional visions of space colonization is the "How to get there from
here." Attention has focused on end-state visions of city-sized colonies but has almost
entirely overlooked the evolution of capability required to achieve very large space-based
structures. This presentation offers a notional example of how these necessary in-between
steps might be pursued, including specific concepts for advancing our space-based
construction abilities and infrastructure. The result is a series of steps we can
realistically hope to accomplish in the near future which will dramatically expand our
space presence and ability to live in space. This will put us on a clear path toward
colonies of the sort envisioned by Dr. Gerard O'Neill and others.
