HAL5 Educational Activities as a Model for Chapter Outreach Efforts
David Hewitt
Huntsvile Alabama L5 Society, Huntsville, Alabama
Abstract
Throughout the entire history of the Huntsville Alabama L5 Society, special emphasis has
been placed on the membership to creatively reach out to the community to extend the hand
of space education. This rich history, from the Project HALO outreach efforts of the
1990s to the diverse efforts of today, HAL5 has remained one of the most active of the
NSS chapters in this area. Today, HAL5 participates in hands --- on education with the
latest incarnation of Project HALO, suitcase rocket demonstrations and tables at
community events in addition to the regular monthly lectures at the public library. Even
though Huntsville is a unique environment that encourages this kind of activity, any
chapter of the NSS can use this example to reach out and tailor to their own respective
communities.
