Attracting Angel Investors to Space Businesses
Joe Landon,
Managing Director, Space Angels Network
Abstract
The success of the space industry requires innovators and entrepreneurs to develop ideas
into thriving companies, and many space entrepreneurs are unfamiliar with the process of
raising seed --- capital for their new businesses. This presentation will introduce angel
investing and provide an overview of venture finance and the amount of startup capital
invested into startup companies by source. Common characteristics of angel investors and
angel groups including investor expectations will be discussed. A case study of an actual
angel investment in a space company will be used to illustrate the process of finding
investors, presenting a business plan, and responding to investor due diligence. Common
deal terms and suggestions for negotiating with investors will also be discussed. After
the presentation, the audience will be more prepared to identify potential investors and
to meet investor expectations for company presentations and business plans. The audience
will also better understand how typical angel investments are structured and what deal
terms to expect.
